MLK Dream Run

#Black Lives Matter, #Invest in the Soul

For the 10th year in a row, the Soul District Business Association is asking you to RUN or WALK in Solidarity with our community to help elevate our mission to eradicate systemic racism and promote economic equity & empowerment for all.

Due to the Covid-19, 2020’s MLK Dream Run shifted from our regular weekend festival format to a virtual format. A big thank you to all that participated. So what does a virtual race look like? Basically, running with tons of other people, just not all in the same place.

Race Distance Options: 5k, 10k and 15K

Open to Individuals or Teams (following CDC guidelines)

who we serve

WHO WE SERVE

The Soul District Business Association is a 501c3 non-profit that has been serving small business owners
and youth workforce development since 1977, with a particular emphasis on engaging our
Black/minority and disadvantaged community members. Activating our professional network of
multicultural peers and mentors, we provide training that includes; developing effective networking
practices, how to navigate complex systems of trade, guidance in the basic business infrastructure and
legalese, and the overall building of business confidence.

Using this same model we provide technical skills training for low-income minority youth in the realms
of technology, digital media, customer service, governance, marketing and building professional
relationships. The MLK Dream Run, The PDXBlack Rose Podcast and Video Training Series and Green
Lighting Black Lives Matter Youth Media Project are the primary platforms used to engage youth ages
16-24 in this type of workforce trainings. For most, we are their first career focused job.

With your support and participation in MLK Dream Run we can continue to serve between 25-50 youth
throughout the year and reach our goals of elevating their opportunities for professional advancement.

Secondly, the Saturday before the Sunday Run will also feature live music, products, and services from
local businesses big and small in our vendor village. We hope this event brings people together to
celebrate the N/NE community noted for its rich ethnic diversity.
